I was just thinking about culture this morning, how it teaches us to attach moral valuations to things that exist independently of cultural paradigms—like plants. Why has Western culture propounded the myth that dandelions are pernicious? They are one of the most beneficial plants to have in your yard, with a number of uses and purposes for humans and other members of the community.
Oh, lawns. Right.
Maybe we should take a moment to look around us, and appreciate the plants that grow nearby just as they are.
